Artificial intelligence (AI), which encompasses machine learning (ML), is the scientific discipline that uses computer algorithms to learn from data, helps identify patterns in data and allows making predictions. A key feature underpinning the excitement behind AI and ML is their potential for analyzing large and complex data structures creating prediction and classification models to solve old and new societal problems from new perspectives. AI and ML form one half of the digital twin, in which a virtual representation of the real world is built, including physical objects, processes, relationships and behavior. As an AI engineer, I joined HAEDES to utilize my experiences in the field of intelligent systems to build smart solutions in the fields of natural sciences and engineering. With the cooperation and support of a multidisciplinary team of HAEDES experts, my mission is to contribute to successful projects and pursue sustainable solutions for the water environment.
